How the numbers are defined
- Days until Christmas is the number of calendar days from the start date to December 25. It is also the number of dates you will live through before Christmas, counting the start date itself and ending with Christmas Eve. From October 4 to December 25, for example, that is 82 days.
- Weekdays and weekend days split those same dates into Monday–Friday and Saturday–Sunday. "Days until Christmas minus weekends" is the weekdays figure. Public holidays are not removed, because they differ by country, state and employer — subtract any that apply to you (for example US Thanksgiving, which always falls on a Thursday in late November).
- Each day of the week counts how many Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and so on fall in the same range — useful if you have a weekly event and want to know how many are left before the holiday.
- Hours and minutes are whole calendar days multiplied out (24 hours per day). When the start date is today, the main countdown on the home page shows the exact remaining time down to the second instead.
- Months + days counts whole calendar months first, then the leftover days — from October 4, that is 2 months (to December 4) and 21 days.
Counting to a Christmas in a different year
Change the year box to count to any Christmas — next year's, Christmas 2030, or a far-future date such as the year 2120. The calculator uses the Gregorian calendar throughout and accounts for every leap year (years divisible by 4, except century years that are not divisible by 400). Because a common year has 365 days and a leap year 366, the count from one Christmas to the next is 365 days unless a February 29 falls in between.

How many weekdays are left until Christmas?
Choose today's date in the calculator: the Weekdays (Mon–Fri) figure counts every Monday to Friday from today up to and including Christmas Eve. Public holidays are not subtracted.
How many weeks until Christmas?
Divide the days by seven. The calculator shows the result as whole weeks plus leftover days, for example 11 weeks and 5 days for 82 days.
Does the count include today?
